Karin Berith Lewis

Lewis, Karin Berith (Westerberg) Berith Lewis was born on March 27,1939 in Aspvik, Sweden, a little town outside of Stockholm. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 28, 2023 in Santa Barbara.. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Berith moved to the United States to be an au pair for a family in Montecito. She met them when she was working in Switzerland. Soon after that, during a night out dancing Berith met Louie. They were married on October 14,1960 and celebrated almost 50 years of marriage before Louie's passing in 2011. Together Berith and Louie raised a family and made a life for themselves in Santa Barbara. She still lived in the first house they bought in 1962. Berith was a full time homemaker and part time teacher's aide at Harding school just down the street from her house. She made friends with all her neighbors and loved to visit with them right up to her final days. She was also an active member of SWEA (Swedish Women’s Educational Assoc.) and loved to participate in local Midsummer festivals and Santa Lucia celebrations each year. She traveled to Sweden and Switzerland almost every summer once her kids were grown. She was deeply connected to her Swedish family. She was an amazing cook and baker, often sharing her dishes with her family and friends. She was especially known for her Swedish Christmas treats. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved any chance to celebrate with them. She also was the family historian, taking pictures at every gathering. Berith is survived by her children Kenneth Lewis (Laura), Patrick Lewis (Shu), Jane Lewis, and her grandchildren Allison Sugden (Frank), Andrew Lewis (Haley), Kaylie and Liliana Vasquez, and Taylor Herald, as well as her great-grandchildren Jeremiah, Lucy, Vera, Charlotte, and Lotus. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther in 2011 and son David in 1982. She is survived by her Swedish siblings Marianne Bergman, Inga Morerod, Erland Westerberg, and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Ragnhild Dahlqvist, Roland Westerberg, Laila Corbett, Erik Westerberg, and Gunnel (Lillan) Westerberg.
