Margaret May Greene

GREENE, Margaret May Age 90, died at her home in Santa Barbara, California, on Sunday, November 6, 2011 with her family by her side. Her death came without illness or pain. She simply ran out of steam. Born March 14, 1921, in Fairland, Oklahoma, to Clifford and Lula McMindes. She was one of four children. Her family moved and settled in Santa Barbara in 1929. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Santa Barbara Junior High and Santa Barbara High School. As a young lady, she met the love of her life while on a scavenger hunt. She had fallen in a hole and Don Greene found her and helped her out. They soon fell in love and were married when she was 17 years old. They were married for 54 wonderful years before Don's passing in 1992. Before Don was sent away to war, he was a contractor and the two of them traveled around California looking for work. Margaret was very proud of being a homemaker. She once called herself the CEO of the Household. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed working in her garden, making her house a home, crocheting and crafting. Her husband had built the house they raised their family in and she had lived there for 57 years. Margaret will be especially remembered for her spunk, kindness and generosity. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Kimzey (Monte) and Donna Parks (Larry) of Goleta. Margaret has four grandchildren, Daryl Kimzey (Deborah) of Tennessee, Jeff Kimzey, Tim Parks (April) of Goleta, and Jennifer Bishop (David) of Buellton and six great-grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Aden Parks and Emma, Hannah and Ella Bishop. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Greene and her three siblings, Floyd and Nelson McMindes and Eva Lee Witcher. Services will be held at 12p.m., on Tuesday, November 15, at the Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel, 450 Ward Drive, Santa Barbara, California. Burial will be held in private. They enabled Margaret to safely stay in her home and were very nurturing and loving towards Margaret. The family is eternally grateful for their exceptional care and for keeping Margaret comfortable and peaceful.
