Maureen Carmel Lacey

LACEY, Maureen Carmel Kearns 1927 – 2013 Maureen Lacey of Goleta passed away peacefully on the evening of October 8, 2013 of natural causes. She was 86 years old. Maureen was being visited and comforted by family members at Sunrise Senior Living in Westlake Village at the time of her passing. Maureen was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 24, 1927 and was the third child, and the only daughter. Maureen spent her youth in Ireland and after school assisting her father with the family business. They owned a horse ranch and boarded horses; they also taught horseback riding. She tended the horses, which included feeding them in the early hours of the morning and bathing and brushing them on a regular basis. Maureen enjoyed school and going to dances in London. In Ireland, Maureen met her Irish sweetheart, John Joseph Lacey, and they fell in love. She and her mother, Elizabeth, followed John to the United States of America in 1957. Maureen and John were married on July 3, 1958. They were blessed with their first son James Patrick in 1959, their second son Patrick John in 1962, third son John Joseph Jr., in 1965 and their fourth son Denis Michael in 1968. Maureen lived in the same house in Goleta for 43 years. Maureen was in charge of the local paper delivery. Maureen was a parishioner of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, attended church regularly and was active in the ministry. She was an avid tennis player and a member of the Santa Barbara Tennis Club. Prior to her tennis career she was a bowler at Orchid Bowl Bowling Lanes where she was very proud of her numerous +250 point games. During her relaxing time you could catch her, and sometimes one of her sons, at Glen Annie Golf Club where she was a frequent lunch diner. Maureen joins her husband John Joseph in heaven. She is survived by her four sons and their wives and seven grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Meghan, Preston, Matthew, Mark and Mitchell. Maureen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. To her family and friends she was known as “Moe”. She was easy going, always with a kind word and her blue Irish eyes were always smiling. Her entire family and her friends will miss her. A Mass will be held October 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Arrangements by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel
