Mr. Sebastian L. Cosma

Born June 26, 1937 Died Oct 17, 2013 Sebastian “Sam” Cosma, lifelong resident of Santa Barbara, died October 17, 2013 at age 76.He was born June 26, 1937 in Santa Barbara to Domenico and Noemi Cosma, who emigrated from Italy. He passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Franklin School, and Santa Barbara Catholic High School. Sam had a career in sales for 50 years, including time with the Old Country Bakery Restaurant Division of Orowheat Foods as a District Sales Supervisor. Upon retiring from Orowheat, Sam started his own company called Sammy Snacks. After retiring from Sammy Snacks, he went to work for the city of Santa Barbara. Along the way, Sam created lifetime friendships and relationships. People that knew Sam would agree that one could always count on him. He served as a member of the National Guard. He was also one of the founders of the Goleta Valley South Little League and Senior League. He was a member of the JC and Optimist Club, for which he served as president. He started the Opticlaus Program and Day in the Sky. Additionally, he hosted a PGA golf tournament at Sandpiper Golf Course. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, and fishing. He had a passion for horse racing and sports. Sam will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, creative storytelling, fun-loving nature, generous heart, and willingness to help. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Sam is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Lucy Cosma; his daughters Sandy Aggarwal (Anil) of Ventura, California, and Terri Aldecoa (Robert) of Clovis, California; his grandchildren— Kyle Aggarwal (his Ace), Nicole Aggarwal (his Princess), and Tyler Aldecoa (his Little Buddy); his sister, Frezzy Cavalli; brother, Mario Cosma (Pam); and many nieces and nephews. We want to thank Dr. Deiner, Dr.Zissman, Dr. Aragon, Dr.Bonemetti, Dr. Newman, Dr. Suh, and their staff for all their kind hearts and support as well as Nurse Laura Hayward from hospice and Nadia, his personal aid, for making him comfortable. We also thank Stephen and the Sarah House staff for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sam’s name to Sarah House (P.O. Box 20031 Santa Barbara, California, 93120), visiting nurse/hospice care (512 East Gutierrez St. SB, CA 93103), or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are made by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels. A public viewing will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Welch–Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel in Goleta for family and friends, followed by a Rosary service at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23,2013 at 10 am at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
