Yldefonso De Rueda

DeRueda, Yldefonso (Poncho) July 4, 1930 – August 5, 2016 Poncho DeRueda of Santa Barbara, California passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2016 after many of his family and friends were able to say one final goodbye. He was the son of Guadalupe and Josefina DeRueda, born on July 4, 1930 in Santa Barbara. He lived the last 59 years in the same house on the west side of town. Poncho is preceded in death by his loving wife, Guadalupe, they were married for 52 years. Together they enjoyed watching their six children and eleven grandchildren play various sports, dance, and perform in theatre arts. Poncho was an avid Dodger fan and could always be found at home watching his favorite team play on television. In the past, he was involved with the Bishop Diego High School Dad’s Club, the Guadalupe Church and Notre Dame School Festivals, and the Elks Club. Poncho worked for 42 years as a supervisor at BFI Waste Systems and its preceding companies – Sanitation Services and South Coast Sanitation. He was always appreciative of the honor to lead hard-working men and women from 1950-1992 to help keep the City of Santa Barbara clean. Poncho was also predeceased, at an early age, by a brother - Sylvano and sister – Josefina. Poncho is survived by his children: Edward (Denise) DeRueda of Castaic, CA., Mary (Stanley) Pottkotter of Carpinteria, CA., Louis (Cindie) DeRueda of Camarillo CA., Arthur DeRueda of Santa Barbara, Helen (Robert) Mortensen of Altadena, CA., and Patrick (Katerina) DeRueda of Paradise Valley, AZ.; his grandchildren: Matthew and James DeRueda, Jenny and Alan Pottkotter, Bradley (Tara), Bryan, Kelsey (DJ), and Kendall DeRueda, Debra and Tim Mortensen, and Nathaniel DeRueda; his step-grandchildren: Kim (Shawn), Matthew, and Lauren; and his step great grandchildren; Sadie, Kaydam, and Hudson. We are proud of our father who often-times worked several jobs to provide for his family and ensured his children received a quality education at parochial schools. We are grateful to those who were loyal to him after the passing of our mother – especially Jose Hernandez and Altagracia Ybarra – and those that worked alongside him throughout the years. A rosary will be held on Tuesday evening August 16th at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 7:00 PM. A mass to celebrate his beautiful life will be conducted on Wednesday morning August 17th at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 10:00 AM at 21 E. Sola Street.
