Edward Cuevas Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

CUEVAS, Jr., Edward "Popeye" 69, of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Paso Robles, CA was called to our Lord 11/11/2016 after a courageous 2 yr. battle with cancer. Eddie was born to Edward and Teresa Cuevas 02/27/1947 and was the youngest of 5 children. Eddie was born and raised in Santa Barbara where he attended local schools and graduated from S.B.H.S. in 1964. In 1965 he joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1971. He then met and fell in love with Evelyn in 1970 and they later married in 1974. They had 2 children and built a beautiful family together. They stayed married for 24 years and although they later divorced they maintained a strong bond and remained the best of friends. They stayed family. Eddie joined the Army Reserves in 1980 and came to enjoy it especially making lasting friends with his Army buddies. He retired honorably from the Army with the rank of Staff Sergeant making a total of 34 years in the military. He then became employed with the Army in San Luis Obispo and thoroughly enjoyed his job. Eddie was the kind of person who kept busy and worked various jobs after retiring. He loved sports and appreciated the outdoors. He enjoyed surfing, playing golf, softball, jogging, hiking, camping and recently took up pickleball, his new love for a new sport. Many lifelong friends were made playing all sports. Eddie also donated his time at the local senior center helping others. Helping people and caring was in his blood. He had a huge heart and a kind way about him. Popeye had so many friends in his beautiful life. They all loved him and helped him along the way making him part of their family. He especially loved being with his family, friends and loved ones bringing laughter and joy to their lives. He is survived by his son Anthony Edward Cuevas of Ventura, Regina Cuevas of Ventura, sister and brother-in-law Marcie and Oscar Woolfolk, grandson Noah, granddaughters Alexandria, Toni and Scarlett and great-grandson Daniel. Services will be held on Saturday, November 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 21 E. Sola St. in Santa Barbara with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery on Hope St. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels and condolences can also be sent to www.wrhsb.com
