Lydia Castro

October 8, 1920 - August 28, 2016

Age 95, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and long-time resident of Santa Barbara, CA passed away peacefully on August 28, 2016. Lydia moved to Santa Barbara in 1969 to be close with her daughter and family and became a naturalized US citizen in 1986. She was a devoted and unconditionally loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Lydia was a spiritual woman with deep faith in God, a selfless soul, with a nurturing and compassionate approach to others, as well as a feisty and independent spirit with a good sense of humor. She had an infectious laugh and loved singing and listening to Spanish songs and music. Lydia will be missed and dearly remembered by all that knew and loved her. Private services will be held. Lydia will be buried next to her daughter, Mirta, who sadly passed away at the young age of 26, and whom she loved dearly. Lydia is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Figueroa and Gladys O'Mahony, who she nurtured, inspired, became second mother to and has been fundamental to, and their families, including grandchildren, Callen, Finley and Mirta; by her son-in-law, Miguel Figueroa, who often sang Spanish songs with her and was with her just before she passed, and his wife Suzanne, who was always there to help her when needed; by her family in Argentina.
