Audrey Anderson Bartholomay

May 13, 2012 7:26 AM BARTHOLOMAY, Audrey Anderson Was born May 30, 1922 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to Randall Anderson, her father, who worked in publishing, and Carola Brentano Anderson, her mother. She was the youngest of four siblings, and granddaughter to Theodore Brentano, Supreme Court Judge and Chief Justice and who later served as the first Ambassador to Hungary under President Harding. Audrey attended Wellesley College, and when WWII broke out she assisted in the war effort from here in the US and shortly after WWII married her beloved and life-long husband Philip Bartholomay. They moved from Geneva, Illinois to Cate School in Carpinteria where they lived on campus while Phil worked as a teacher. Shortly after that they moved to Montecito where her husband started what became a well-known construction company. She gained admiration from numerous friends, participated actively with Tri-Counties Bloodbank, the Junior League, tennis and bridge, (her passion), for which she won numerous awards. She loved to water ski and snow ski with her family and friends, and when she didn't have social obligations and activities in Santa Barbara, she could be found relaxing at the lake house. She was an avid reader, a loyal friend, and will be deeply missed by all that knew her. She was humble and unpretentious and felt as comfortable in a swim suit at the lake as she did in an evening gown. In her modest way, she gave so much to those around her without even knowing it. She lived her life with grace, dignity and integrity; she was a lady of the highest order, a dedicated wife and mother and loved it when her family gathered together. As all who knew her are well aware, she possessed a keen wit and wonderful sense of humor that never failed her. On April 22, 2012 Audrey passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at home, and is now embraced by the wings of Angels. She is survived by her three sons Brad, Randy (Debbie), and John (Julie); and grandchildren Schuyler, Brooke and Parker. She was predeceased by her husband Philip, brothers Randall and Brent, and sister Georgia. In lieu of any flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Red Cross or the Wounded Warrior Project.
