Carole J. Cordero

February 7, 2012 4:14 AM CORDERO, Carole J. June 30, 1944 - February 2, 2012 Passed away peacefully at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Carole was born at Cottage Hospital and was a lifelong resident of Santa Barbara County. When she was a child, her parents moved the family from Santa Barbara to Refugio, where Carole worked at the family owned concession stand, Refugio Beach Store. She graduated from Vista Del Mar Union Elementary School and Santa Ynez High School before attending Cal Poly. After college, Carole moved to Goleta, CA., where she helped build her house next door to her beloved paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Ford, who predeceased her. Carole lived in this same house for over 44 years. Carole worked as a secretary at Certified Life Insurance for many years before quitting her job to work full time as a co-owner/secretary at Augie's Repair Service (now Augie's Repair Systems) along side her beloved husband of 29 1/2 years, Augustine Cordero, who predeceased her. After retiring, she was proud the business was continued by her step-son, John (Peggy) Cordero, of Lompoc, CA. and her step-grandsons, Nick Cordero and Jason Cordero, both of Santa Barbara, CA. Carole enjoyed reading, watching television, playing cards, attending events at the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge #613, camping with the Caravaneers and traveling with her extended family, including Augustine, her daughter, April Reid, of Vallejo, CA., her step-daughter, Norma (Joe) Lowery, of Downsville, LA. and her brother-in-law, Leroy Cordero, of Santa Maria, CA. She also enjoyed spending time at the vacation home she and Augustine built in Los Barriles, Mexico. In addition to Carole's daughter, survivors include her brother, Gary (Linda) Hazard, of Nacimiento Lake, CA., her nephews, Michael Hazard and Mark Hazard, both of Burbank, CA., five step-children, nine step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Goleta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, 222 E.
