Paula V. Loomis

Paula Virginia Loomis, left us on November 14, 2014 at the age of 87. Born on January 23, 1927 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada to J. Paul and Emma Loomis, she attended Santa Barbara Junior High, Santa Barbara High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Santa Barbara. Paula had a love of the North and an adventurous spirit, which lead her to travel and live in some of the most beautiful areas of California. Taking advantage of her dual citizenship with the United States and Canada she lived for many years in Victoria, BC. It was her endearing love for Santa Barbara though that brought her back to spend the rest of her days. Paula was an accomplished musician, having played several instruments including the violin, flute, guitar, cello, double bass and keyboard. Many evenings she would spend practicing, playing classical arrangements. She also cherished singing in a number of choirs and choral groups. Most recently Paula and her sister, Dawn, enjoyed lunching at all the finest restaurants in town, including her favorite, the Biltmore. Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. Mary Frye, American poet (1904-2004) Paula was preceded in death by her former husband Juan J. Solis and is survived by their three children, daughter Antonia David, (Michael), son David Solis; and daughter Robin Solis (John). She also survived by her grandson, Eric Dean and wife Hollie, who very recently blessed her with a great-grandson, Lucas Brian Dean. Paula also leaves behind her sisters, Dawn L. Coleman of Santa Barbara; Laura Joan Nader of Auburn; and Keith Loomis and wife Betty of Ojai, as well as niece Julie Hill; nephews Scott Loomis, Spencer Loomis, Stan Nader, Wayne Nader and Glen Nader and their families. The family would like to thank Bev Troon for her friendship and support to Paula throughout he years. A memorial service will be held on November 22 at 11:30 A.M. at Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels located at 15 East Sola Street anta Barbara, CA 93101.
