Richard Frank Heron

It is with a heavy heart and the greatest sadness that I announce the loss of my father Richard Frank Heron, known to many as "Dickie" on Saturday, January 28, 2017 while surrounded by his loved ones he passed away peacefully. Dickie was born in Santa Barbara to Joseph Heron and Guadalupe Cordero on September 10, 1938. A native to Santa Barbara he attended local schools; Lincoln Elementary, Santa Barbara Jr. High and Santa Barbara High. While at Santa Barbara he played many sports but excelled as the quarterback for the Dons football team and as a pitcher on the baseball team. He graduated in 1956. After graduating he started working for the City of Santa Barbara. In 1958 he married Dora Robles and became a plaster working for his father-in-laws family business. In 1961 Dickie and Dora started their family. To better support his family, he made a career change which began in 1965 where he worked for the Santa Barbara School District as the Athletic Director at Dos Pueblos High School. After many years at this position he eventually retired as the Head Custodian with more then 40+ years in at D.P. Some of his favorite hobbies in life were baseball, fishing, hunting, bowling and spending time with loved ones. Many will remember him for the great bar-b-ques and him riding around D.P.H.S. In his "little blue cart." He is preceded in death by his wife Dora M. Heron, sons Ronald F. Heron and Reginald J. Heron, both parents Joseph J. Heron and Guadalupe Cordero and brother Cylde Cordero Sr. He leaves behind the following loved ones: daughter Raquel Heron (Frank); 4 grandchildren: Amanda Esparza (Jeff), Johnathon Heron (Vanessa), Beau Solis (Jessica), Nicole Wick (Billy), 4 great-grandchildren: Phyniix, Phallyn, Phierce and Sadie. His partner in life Rosemary Munoz. Brothers: Joseph "Joe" Heron (Pat), Gene Forney (Gloria), Roy Forney (Ann). Dickie had many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. Our family would like to thank the staff at Cottage Hospital for their compassionate care the last week of his life. A Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 am at St. Raphael's Church. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life reception.
