Suzanne Burke Frounfelkner

Born in San Francisco, December 9, 1949, at St. Mary’s Hospital and lived in Palo Alto, CA until January 1961, when the family moved to Manila and lived there until 1963 when her father suffered a major heart attack. Suzi was 13 at that time. After his death, the family moved back to Palo Alto and then to Santa Barbara in November 1963. Suzi went to San Roque Catholic School and then to Bishop Diego High School, where she graduated in 1968. Shortly thereafter her mother died and she decided to take a two month road trip in her VW Beetle across the U.S.with her girlfriend, Barb Naour. Upon returning to Santa Barbara, she enrolled at SBCC where she graduated with two associate degrees, one in Radiologic Technology, which led to employment at Goleta Valley Community Hospital as an X-ray technologist. In 1974, she met and fell in love with L. Butch Frounfelkner, who also worked at GVCH. In 1976, she moved to Sparks, Nevada and married Butch in August, 1977. One year later, on their 1st wedding anniversary, she gave birth to Timothy. In July 1979, she moved to Vacaville, CA, and in June, 1982, they welcomed Daniel to their family. She co-owned D&S Engraving, a computerized engraving business and was employed by the Vacaville Unified School District as a secretary at Willis Jepson Jr. High School. In 2021, Suzi and Butch downsized and moved backed to Goleta, CA. to be near the ocean, her brother, and her many friends. Suzi’s most prized achievements were her two boys, Tim & Danny, and her love for her grandchildren; Oliver, Stellan, and Poppy who call her Oma. She loved walking on the beach with her rescued puppy and her girlfriends. She always looked forward to vacationing in Maui, where she would snorkel with the turtles and read a good book, while listening to the birds and waves crashing on the sand. Her passing on July 21, 2026 was unexpected and sudden, leaving all of us heartbroken yet grateful for everyday we shared together. She will be greatly missed. A mass will be held at the Old Mission SB on September 11, 2026 at 11AM and a celebration of life to follow at Rocky Nook Park, located at 610 Mission Canyon Rd. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution to the NorCal Cocker Rescue &/or the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
